France 2010 – Day 2
August 17th, 2010 -- 2 Comments »

Second day. Still on the road, after a short and uncomfortable night I was already moving when the sun rose.

I love driving in the early morning, when the mist is rising…

This fog wouldn’t clear up though. Might have missed some nice landscapes.

Short break in Auch. Beautiful sight.

I was quite lucky with the clouds.

On the road again. Finally, the Pyrénées in sight!

Continuing with the weekend’s photos. Oberammergau at night, shot from the hotel window.
Wider.
Longer.
At morning. Just a few seconds after they switched off the church :/
Temporarily storing my gear.
It wasn’t all fun and games. Learning an upcoming exam.
Strolling through the town.
Athletes getting their race number one day before the first race day.
Gloves. Bought a pair myself, proved to be an extremely good investment. Not that I went there without good gloves, but these were perfect for photographing.
Just a few details.
Transferring images from my cards at the hotel. Yep, still no images from the race, it was a long weekend.

My boss scouting the route of the race.
Back to the abbey…
I used the 12-24 extensively. As you can see, I still can not hold the camera leveled ^^ The ultra wide isn’t that easy to handle once there are symmetrical elements in the composition, it really needs careful handling.
Entering.
Looking upwards in astonishment.
Right below the chandelier.
Leaving…
Time to go home.
Head and feet.
Back in Oberammergau.

Raclette at Tina’s place last week. A great evening =)
Finishing with chocolate fondue…
Learning.
Preparing my gear for the job on the weekend.
All packed.
Arrival in Oberammergau, checking the location two days before the first race day.
Going for a walk.
Two lone cross-country skiers at the starting ground of the weekend’s race.
Ettal.
Arrived at the Ettal abbey.
More tomorrow.

I’ve been in there as a child, must have been more than a decade ago. This time I only peeked in from the outside.
Speyer.
Next to streets, everything is dirty right now.
Highway bridge across the Rhine.
Me at 12 mm.
Got to remember to give this poor drive train some oil after the beating it got from all the snow and the salt.
Lots of snow.
On the way back. Schwetzingen again.
I messed up the presentation on this one. Big time. But I was so hungry after the trip to Speyer that I didn’t spent too much thought on it ^^

Now these are the interesting shots of this weekend, taken on the trip back to Heidelberg. I went by train, with stops in Bielefeld and Cologne. While most of these shots were taken handheld, even while walking, some of the shots from Cologne were taken supported by my new traveling tripod.

Jahnplatz, Bielefeld. Not really a nice city.

Passing by.

Hauptbahnhof, Bielefeld.

In the train.

Exiting the train at the main station in Cologne.

This one I’ll have to shoot on tripod some other time, with more consideration.

Domplatte, Köln.

Quick shot from the tripod. I was in a little hurry, didn’t want to miss my train so I didn’t spent too much time fine tuning the framing of these images.

Back in the main station.

Entering the train.

On route to Mannheim.
Finishing with some random shots from yesterday…
